To learn about education and language in the time of Jesus I used Maria and Matt’s websites. Maria’s website covered education, and was very thorough; it gave me a clear picture of how and what children in Jesus’s time learned. Before visiting her website I had thought of synagogues solely as places of worship, but I learned that they were also places of education, and that a rabbi was actually a teacher. I think that some pictures on the information pages would have improved the website and highlighted all her great information. Matt’s website covered the many languages spoken during Jesus’s time. The site was very well organized and I liked how each language had its own separate page. I had not realized that so much of the population was illiterate- around 99%! One thing I would suggest is more information regarding the different periods of the languages, in particular approximately when each period was.

To learn about education and language, I visited Maria and Matt’s websites. On Maria’s site, I like how she separated her information so you can clearly tell what was the begging of education for Jewish children compared to what it evolved into. One interesting fact I learned was that children learned everything in Greek. One improvement I would make is I would change the names of her tabs at the bottom so people can tell what the information on each page is easier. On Matt’s site, I like how he separated his information into different pages with different languages so you could clearly tell which information went with which language. One interesting face I learned was that the majority of people in that time did not know much Latin or speak it, contrary to my prior belief. One thing I would improve is I would make some of his bullets less wordy and add more pictures or examples of the languages written out.

To learn about Education and Languages I visited Maria and Matt’s websites. On Maria’s website, I liked how the colors worked well with each other and made the information pleasing to read. I learned that if a boy was interested in furthering his religious studies, he had to consult with a rabbi to teach him. I also learned that at the age of 30, a student was capable of becoming a rabbi himself. One suggestion to improve her website would be to add more pictures to it. On Matt’s website, I liked how the languages were each on their own page and had informational bullets. I learned that each language had a high and a low form as well as most of the Old Testament was written in Aramaic. One improvement could be to also add a few more pictures or to give an example of what the language looks like when written out. Overall, both websites were pleasing to the eye and very informational.

I discovered some information on education and language in the websites of Maria and Matt. Maria’s site on education was nicely organized and easy to find specific information. One fact I learned was that a student can become a Rabbi at age 30 after religious studies. I also learned that education began at home, and was then continued at the synagogue when the child was about 7. One thing to improve the over all appearance of the website would be to get rid of the parenthetical citations. On Matt’s site about language, I liked how the headings were each a language spoken with the information displayed in bulleted form. This made it easy to fully grasp the info. I learned upon viewing the site that 99% of the population was illiterate, but most spoke multiple languages. Another fact is that most scholars believe Jesus spoke Aramaic. One thing to improve the site would be to add some more information to the subjects that didn’t have as much.

To be enlightened on Education and Languages in Jesus’ time I visited Maria’s and Matt’s website. Maria’s website had great colors right when the website was opened. My favorite facts form the website were by the time kids were 7 they were able to read write and speak in Aramaic and Greek which they learned form their parents at home. Another fact was Jewish girls would learn about the important parts of the law along with learning to treat illnesses, cook, dance, play a musical instrument, and other skills, such as weaving and spinning. One thing I would change in the website would be putting a little more on the front page. I thought Matt’s had easy access to all of his topics. Two great facts were that many languages contained a high and a low form for the rich and for the poor. Another fact was educated people generally knew Greek. One thing I would change on Matt’s site would be adding a few more colors.

In order to learn about education and languages I visited Maria’s website and also Matt’s website. On Maria’s website I liked how there was a lot of information in an organized fashion. Two interesting facts I found on her website are that Jewish education started at home with their parents and that Jewish children were able to read, write, and speak Aramaic and Greek by about age 7. One thing Maria could do to make her website even better is to change the font of the text so that it is more fun to read. One thing I liked about Matt’s website was that his website was easy to navigate and had a lot of information. Two interesting facts I learned were that Latin was the official language of the Roman Empire and that 99% of the people at the time were illiterate. One thing he could improve on his website is to add more pictures. I enjoyed visiting both websites very much.
