With the intention of obtaining knowledge of the entertainment, clothing and fashion of the Roman Empire, I viewed the websites created by Nikita, Cydavia, and Summer. Nikita and Cydavia’s website regarding entertainment and “the high life” was extraordinarily informative, while still retaining the feel of a real entertainment organization’s website. Summer’s website on the topic of Roman fashion was well organized and laid out its information very creatively. Before reading Cydavia and Nikita’s website, I was unaware that the Roman senators would traditionally sit in the lowest ring of the Colosseum, and that Roman baths would often be built the size of palaces. Visiting Summer’s website enlightened me to the fact that the color purple would traditionally be associated with a higher social ranking, and that kohl painted over the eyelids was thought to have medicinal powers. Despite both websites being expertly crafted, they both still retain some room for improvement. For instance, Nikita and Cydavia’s website could have been enriched by organizing the website’s contents to a greater degree. Checking over the grammar and spelling in certain paragraphs could have improved the readability of Summer’s website.

I viewed Summer's website and Nikita and Cydavia's website to learn more about clothing and fashion in the world of Jesus. On Summer's website, I liked the template, design, the many pictures, and how she organized it. It made viewing a history site much more fun and enjoyable. In particular, I loved her title. Some interesting facts I learned were that the color purple worn on their tunics symbolized a high social rank and that women used bees wax to keep their hair together. I would've made the pictures more clear and fixed some spelling and grammar errors, though. On Nikita and Cydavia's webiste, I immediately was drawn to the creativity they had. The layout of the website was very professional, and their writing style caught my attention and pulled me in. You can tell much effort was put in to the information and how it was written. I was interested to learn that a mixture of ants' eggs was used to darken the eyebrows and eyelashes. Another fun fact was that there was a law banning jewelry that was over a certain weight. What I would change about the website would be to add a picture on the home page to fill up the blank space in the middle.

To learn about Fashion and Clothing I visited Summer’s website as well as Nikita and Cydavia’s website. On Summer’s website, I liked the website title and how the website was organized. I learned that almost everyone wore a tunic and that women had to dress well when out in public. One improvement would be to find pictures with a higher resolution so that they don’t look blurry when enlarged. On Nikita and Cydavia’s website, I liked how the background looked compared to the menu on the home page. The colors work very well together and are pleasing to the eye. I learned that there were different types of Gladiators such as the Equites, Murmillo, Hoplomachus, Retarius, and Secutor. I also learned that men are very clean shaven and have short haircuts. I assumed that they had beards and long hair back then so this information surprised me. One improvement that could be made is adding a picture to the home screen and breaking down the fashion section so it is easier to read. Overall, both website were very informative and had a nice color scheme that made it pleasing to read.

I viewed Summer’s website and Cydavia and Nikita’s website to learn about the clothing and fashion of the time of Jesus. On Summer’s site, I really liked how everything was formatted and how the different heading and pages were organized. One interesting fact I learned was that the most coveted color was purple, which was taken from the murex shellfish in the Mediterranean. I also found out that khol was painted over eyelids for cosmetic purposes, and was believed to have medicinal powers. One thing that confused me on Summer’s site was how some links at the bottom of the home page didn’t correspond to the correct page. Technical errors like such could be fixed to improve the over all quality of the website. Cydavia and Nikita’s site had some really cool touches, like how the information was displayed through the perspective of a personal stylist. One fact I learned is that men would go the barber shop for a clean shave, yet there was no soap or oil used to do the job. Another thing I learned was that when a boy received a toga, it symbolized coming of age. One tip to improve the website would be to add some pictures to the front page where there was a lot of empty space.

I wanted to learn about fashion in Jesus’ time so I went to Summer’s website as well as Nikita’s website. I like how Summer made the website very modern. Two interesting facts I learned from Summer were that they had a wide variety of color because I never thought clothes in that time had color. The second one was women’s hair was held in place with beeswax. One thing I would maybe change on this website would be making the font maybe a little thicker. I enjoyed how creative Nikita made her website. Facts I learned from her website were that women most often wore a leather bra and also men and women wore the same shoes. One thing I would change about the website would be all the blank space in the middle on the home page.

To learn about Roman clothing and fashion, I visited Summer’s website as well as Nikita and Cydavia’s website. I really liked the humor and fun of Summer’s website. Two facts I found interesting on Summer’s website are that wealthy women used oil as hairspray and that women’s hair was held together with beeswax. Summer’s website was very good but could be improved upon by fixing a few pictures that were blurry. On Nikita and Cydavia’s website, I enjoyed the elegant layout and background. Two facts on their website that I found interesting are that perfume made from herbs and plants was used by the Romans and also that women used red plant dye as lipstick. Nikita and Cydavia made a great website but it could be improved slightly by adding in a few more pictures. Both websites were great and I enjoyed viewing them.
